THE CALIFORNIA ABUNDANT BIRTH PROJECT NOW AVAILABLE TO RIVERSIDE COUNTY RESIDENTS

The Abundant Birth Project (ABP) is a guaranteed income program that provides cash during pregnancy. It was developed by Expecting Justice and the community to make birthing healthier and safer for the people facing the greatest risk during their pregnancy journey. ABP provides cash with no strings attached as a strategy to prevent stress during pregnancy. Research shows this is likely to prevent babies from being born too early or too small and can also protect the health of the mother (or birthing parent). By providing unconditional cash, mamas have resources to support themselves and their families, and babies have the chance at a healthy start. The Abundant Birth Project is expanding to four CA counties: Alameda, Contra Costa, Los Angeles, and Riverside.

If selected, participants will receive the following monthly cash gift, based on county of residence:
  • Alameda: $967
  • Contra Costa: $1,000
  • Los Angeles: $807
  • Riverside: $616

Eligibility

  1. Live in Alameda, Contra Costa, Los Angeles, or Riverside counties
  2. Be 8-27 weeks pregnant at the time of the Abundance Drawing

  • Alameda: $128,017

President/CEO Dr. Dan Anderson to Retire from RCHF

Riverside Community Health Foundation (RCHF) announced that President and CEO Dr. Dan Anderson intends to retire in March of this year. After serving 19 years as RCHF’s leader and 50 years serving the non-profit sector, he has been working with the current Board of Directors over the past several months in the selection of the foundation’s next leader to ensure a smooth transition.

Dr. Anderson knows transition quite well through his non-profit work and 31-year tenure with RCHF. He initially joined Riverside Community Hospital in 1993 as Hospital Chaplain and Community Benefits Coordinator. When Riverside Community Hospital was sold and became a for-profit in May of 1997, RCHF was created from an endowment from the sale of the hospital.  Dr. Anderson went from overseeing hospital operations to becoming the Director of Community Outreach for the newly formed foundation’s community grants and programs, focusing on creating a healthier Riverside.

“It was a significant change. We went from serving the community hospital to tackling broader health implications for the greater community. Our new mission became ‘to improve the health and well-being of the community’ with a strong emphasis on advocating healthcare access for the low-income and uninsured population.” Dr. Anderson states.

Eventually promoted to Vice-President of Program and Services in 2002 and then President and CEO in 2005, Dr. Anderson played a vital role in developing the foundation from its inception to its current administration. He has grown the staff to a 48-member team with wide backgrounds in health education, public health, and community engagement. He was integral in setting the course for RCHF’s grantmaking process, numerous community projects, coalitions, and the construction and start-up of three community health centers: Arlanza Family Health Center and two Eastside Health Centers.

Since 1997, RCHF has established numerous outreach programs. In its early years, RCHF partnered with local health organizations forming much-needed wellness services such as Miles of Smiles, Health in Motion, teen health programs, and health education. As the need for more health and wellness services in the community grew and changed, RCHF has focused its programs in key areas such as: Women’s and Maternal Health, Community Health, Teen Health, Chronic Disease Prevention, and small grants supporting the work of other nonprofits. RCHF has adopted other community agencies including the Pink Ribbon Place (Riverside’s cancer resource center) and the Community Settlement Association (Eastside Riverside’s historic community resource center).

With the growing demand for health resources, the staff and programming outgrew its original office space located in the Health Education Center at Riverside Community Hospital. Dr. Anderson and the Board of Directors procured and renovated a larger building in downtown Riverside in 2017 to serve as the RCHF administration headquarters.

“Over the past three decades, with his steadfast leadership of RCHF, Dr. Anderson has steered the Foundation through remarkable growth. His unwavering commitment to community service has been the cornerstone of RCHF’s success. Under his guidance, RCHF has forged incredible partnerships and embraced opportunities that have transformed the Foundation and enhanced its ability to serve the community. Thanks to Dr. Anderson’s enduring leadership, RCHF stands poised to continue making a lasting impact for generations to come” – Michelle C. Burroughs, Board Chair.

Riverside Community Health Foundation and Neighborhood Healthcare celebrate partnership at two Riverside health centers

Congressman Mark Takano and other officials celebrated the facility launch with two ribbon-cutting ceremonies and check presentation last Friday

Riverside, CA –  Riverside Community Health Foundation (RCHF) and Neighborhood Healthcare celebrated two ribbon-cutting ceremonies at the Eastside Health Center Building A and Eastside Health Center Building B.

RCHF, whose mission is to improve the health and well-being of the community, partnered with Neighborhood Healthcare late last year to assume operations of both clinics without service interruption.

Both facilities, located at 1970 and 1971 University Ave, will accept Medi-Cal and Medicare along with other insurance while providing primary care, behavioral health, pediatrics, women’s health, prenatal, and dental care with expanded specialty services such as acupuncture and chiropractic care. The RCHF and Neighborhood Healthcare relationship expands both organizations’ capabilities to offer individuals and families in the area quality, compassionate care regardless of situation or circumstance at these and other facilities.

“We are excited to celebrate our partnership with Neighborhood Healthcare,” said Dan Anderson, D. Min, President/CEO of Riverside Community Health Foundation. “The organization has a proven track record of quality care, and we are excited to continue to work with them to foster healthier and happier communities through compassionate and quality care.”

U.S. Congressman Mark Takano participated in the ribbon-cutting ceremonies, which included a check presentation on behalf of the Congressional Appropriations Committee for the Community Project Funding awarded to RCHF for the renovations of Eastside Health Center Building A and Arlanza Family Health Center. California Assemblymember Sabrina Cervantes and Riverside Councilmember Clarissa Cervantes also joined the activities.

"I'm thrilled to have secured $2 million in federal Community Project Funding for Riverside Community Health Foundation," said Congressman Mark Takano. "RCHF provides vital health services for some of the most vulnerable populations in my district, and I look forward to the impact that these renovations will have on access to care in our community."

“We offer more than just medical care,” said Rakesh Patel, MD, CEO of Neighborhood Healthcare. “Together with RCHF, our programs and resources can help individuals and families with everything from obtaining insurance coverage to planning a family.”

RCHF Secures $2 Million in Community Project Funding for its Community Clinics

House of Appropriations Committee approves a $2 Million in Community Project Funding for RCHF’s Eastside A and Arlanza Family Health Center Revitalization Project for 41st District

Riverside, CA – Riverside Community Health Foundation (RCHF)’s clinics, Arlanza Family Health Center (AFHC) located at 8856 Arlington Ave, Riverside, CA 92503 and Eastside Health Center Building A (EHC-A) located at 1970 University Avenue, Riverside, CA 92507 will receive $2,000,000 in funding through Community Project Funding for 41st District.

Funds will be used for building improvements and upgrades of the EHC-A building, which was built in 2000, and AFHC, which was built in 2006.  In addition, funds will be used to acquire new medical equipment, technology, and furniture to provide high-quality health care to vulnerable populations in these medically underserved areas.

“I’m excited to yet again bring home critical federal funding for Riverside through the Community Project Funding process, delivering transformational assistance to our community,” said Rep. Mark Takano. “Each of these 15 projects came directly from the community and will improve quality of life for my constituents. I voted to support these critical projects in the omnibus appropriations bill.”

“We are deeply grateful for such a tremendous opportunity to better serve our community members in the Arlanza and Eastside,” shared Dan Anderson, President and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) for RCHF. “As we move forward with this project, we are excited to work with our new clinic partners, Neighborhood Healthcare, in reframing what true quality healthcare can look like when we invest in not only the right equipment but also the right people.”

The EHC-A and AFHC are two of three community clinics owned by RCHF, all of which are located in District CA-41 and also include the Eastside Health Center B (established in 2017). At the core of community health centers and the work of RCHF, is health equity. RCHF health centers provide a direct line into the communities they serve, identifying and prioritizing the needs of the community. More than 11,000 are medically treated and more than 4,200 are dentally treated annually at the clinic EHC-A.

The EHC-A and AFHC serve all residents including historically underserved communities, those without health insurance, and those with limited to no ability to pay, with the opportunity to access health, no matter where they live or their individual circumstances.

The clinics are operated by RCHF partner Neighborhood Healthcare. Neighborhood offers a wide range of medical and dental services including primary care, pediatrics, prenatal, women’s health, behavior health (counseling and psychiatry), and dental.
